Generator Installation
Scurfield Electric, Heating & Solar makes it easy to install a generator from start to finish in Humboldt County.
We are fully licensed for the whole job — A complete generator install requires both an electrician (C10) to connect the electric lines and a plumber (C36) to connect the fuel line. Most companies hold only one of these licenses and have to subcontract the other half of the job. Scurfield holds both, under Contractor License #1036962, so your entire installation is managed, permitted, and completed by a single licensed team.
A planset engineered specifically for your home — Every generator we install starts with a planset engineered for your property. Before any wiring or gas work begins, our team evaluates your home's electrical panel, gas supply, and site conditions to design an installation tailored to fit your needs. That site-specific planset is what goes to the County of Humboldt for permitting. This way, your generator installation is approved based on your home's actual layout, not a one-size-fits-all design that risks revisions and delays.
Permits handled start to finish — Scurfield submits, tracks, and finalizes every permit with the County of Humboldt or city building department on your behalf. From the initial application through inspection scheduling to final sign-off, our team manages the entire permitting process so you're never stuck chasing down paperwork or coordinating yourself. Because we hold the knowledge and the licenses required for the full scope of the job, we're able to submit and manage the permit as a single point of contact. We make the entire permitting and inspection process easy for you. No need for juggling separate permits or inspections between multiple contractors.
Skilled service after the install — Our technicians know generator systems inside and out, from troubleshooting to repair. The same team that installs your generator has the electrical and mechanical expertise to keep it running for years to come.
Authorized Kohler generator dealer — Our technicians are trained and certified by Kohler, not just experienced with generators in general. That authorization means your installation and service are handled by a team Kohler itself has trained on their systems
Why Scurfield Electric, Heating & Solar Installs Kohler Generators
Kohler builds standby generators for reliability, quiet operation, fuel efficiency, and durability, models quiet enough to run below the noise of a washing machine's spin cycle, and engineered to perform when Humboldt County's weather or seismic activity knocks out the grid. It's the brand we trust enough to run in our own homes, which is why we recommend it for yours.
Because Scurfield is an authorized Kohler dealer, having us install your generator qualifies you for Kohler's full 5-year/2,000-hour warranty. That coverage only stays valid, and transfers with the home if you sell, when a Kohler-authorized dealer handles the installation and startup. We register your warranty for you as part of the install, so your generator is fully protected and on record from day one, no extra steps needed on your part.
Scurfield Offers Generator Tranfser Switch Options
Every home's power needs are different, which is why we offer two types of transfer switches: whole-house backup and partial backup.
When our team at Scurfield installs a whole-house system, your entire home is covered during an outage. This option gives you complete peace of mind at the expense of higher fuel usage and cost.
Scurfield also offers partial backup systems that cover only your essential loads when the grid goes down. We help you prioritize your top 8 to 12 circuits, so you stay powered through the outage while using significantly less fuel.
We'll walk you through both options and help you size the right system for your home, your budget, and how you use power during an outage.
